Ad blockers are designed to let people control their online experience.
But for millions, that experience is controlled for them by governments that censor what they can see.
On March 12th, World Day Against Cyber Censorship, we teamed up with Amnesty International and AdBlock to launch ‘Unblocker’, a project that flipped the script. Instead of blocking content, we used the ad space to spotlight voices often silenced, featuring powerful messages from figures like Edward Snowden and Ai Weiwei about the realities of online repression. The campaign resulted in dozens of awards including Cannes Lions and D&AD.
